Garage 51 x Coffee Societe

Was at Coffee Societe when we found out about their new opening in bandar Sunway from Kevin their barista. They are doing this sister company sort of so Garage 51 is under Coffee Societe.

Been there awhile back and this place they are nested in would be hard to find if I only have their address. Thankfully I asked a friend of mine roughly where is this which is near Sunway University. Its tucked among the automotive repair workshops hence the name I guess. I find it really clever to have find a spot like this. Apart from complaining bout parking is hard then I give up since bangsar, ss15 and all is as bad as it is also.

So voluminous ;/

I find this type of shoplots are specially interesting and I really appreciate the use of double volume ceilings! I got to know that their furnitures and bar table and stuff are from themselves. Garage 51 design is all about revamping recycled materials. The use of their intermodal container is clever for their kitchen place. This time their kitchen is an open kitchen. I'm not sure about how sustainable they are, but being a corner lot I specially like how they are getting sun into the place!

Did abit of OOTD behind the alley among the workshops with this vainpot.

Every visit isn't finish without taking a trip to the washroom! Which is weird ;/ //super// It was when I took off my pants where I find it awkward, they had this SUPER big piece, to-floor type of mirror. So I check myself out as I pee, I think thats the idea. Pharking awkward for guys I thought hahaha. Still I like mirrors, whatever happens in the toilet, stays there!

Ripped boots . Leggings . Fringed-Tee

After running around the area our food and drinks arrived! From the info I got is beans in Coffee Societe are roasted in Malaysia by the company Coffex though I don't know what blend it is. They ordered their caffe latte and espresso. I always have my americano at their place, so I tried short mac(means short macchiato, espresso with a small dollop of foam).

It was the worst. Its like a screwed up shot.really.

Good foam.

Our faces just cringed up and agree that its a badly pulled shot. I sighed and ate my food lol. hahaha Their latte was good, I do know that their baristas are really good with latte art which is really really nice! They can get girls screaming over their latte art. So my friend decided the espresso he ordered to have it at the end of the meal. We know Kevin from Coffee Societe and he was there at Garage 51 that day. Someone who ordered an espresso means something and we kinda looked over their bar and they were taking sometime to fix a shot for my friend(as they know my friend is a barista himself). We saw him testing a shot or two before serving us.. Crap weii... his espresso is good lahhh.. wth. I then tasted his espresso I was like wtf, how is this different from mine!

Later we asked and found out a newbie pulled my shot. phark. =__= ok nvm my luck.

Avocado , Tomatoes credits to mother nature
Breads and bagels
Only thing cook here are their eggs! Decent wholesome food still.

We each ordered food and their menu here are much simpler. As I run around Garage 51 I had a chance to talk to their kitchen manager :3 seems that kitchen there are abit smaller and not enough staff as well. Whatever they are serving isn't rocket science but what I appreciate about it is that they serve it fresh and cooked as we order not like some coffee shops where either they heat it back up or prepare earlier (I'm not talking about cakes and all, like sandwiches and stuff like that)

Had this picture laying around. So this is poached eggs at Coffee Societe which is good.
I don't complain about their food as I like whole food ;D There, they serve lamb and grilled chicken as well.
Oh and the waiter there is soooo nice ^_^ *blush haha I didn't get his name
I don't know how to describe him in a non racist way but he is the black guy there ;/ #thumbsup for remembering me. :')

A Quick Update of The Life of a Mediocre Student

Somehow, the title sounds cheesy haha. Anyway,  I planned to take some time off to blog a bit since it has been a month or so since I last blogged. I don't have any thoughts to share at the moment so I guess I will just blog about what I have been up to. Beware, this is going to be boring :/.

I was a participant in Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) by McKinsey. I actually came across it last year when a friend and a senior of mine strongly recommend the program. YLA is  a 12-week project-based, leadership development program designed for local university students. The program revolves around 2 workshops, a project, and a unique mentoring program aiming to teach leadership by actually working in teams to achieve a common goal. My team consists of 5 members and we run a project entitled "Book For Change"  which aims to help identify Teach For Malaysia Fellows in rural and high-need schools by providing them with teaching and classroom materials. Funds are generated through the sale of donated books on www.bookforchange.org. YLA had just recently ended but my team planned to extend this project. The websites and FB page are still on the process of improvement. :)

At present, I am also helping with the organizing team of TEDxYouth@KL. Our theme for this year is From Ideas to Impact; Innovation is not a single event or activity. It is a process – a process of generating ideas, day after day. It will be happening on 16 November 2013 at Penthouse @ The Icon, Lot E-21-01, Penthouse Floor, THE ICON. I am taking charge of the Marketing Department with Mandy and Liam where we plan for the marketing materials and postings around Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Besides these two projects, classes in Uni are resumed! It has been exciting and scary at the same time since the syllabus is much harder :/. I had gotten rusty with the finance and economics terms so I am trying hard to brush up by reading news about it. I am sure that you have come across the government shutdown in the United States. That is by far the most interesting news! If you would like to know about it at a glance, read this :)

Before I sign off, I would like to end the post with a quote. I have the habit of reading online articles and blogs during my leisure time. When I was doing my reading as usual, I saw this quote:

“We are healthy only to the extent that our ideas are humane.”
― Kurt VonnegutBreakfast of Champions
What do you think about it?

YiruChloe asked me about this post and I was so curious about this quote from Kurt Vonnegut. I was searching through the web about its definition or does anyone has a longer description on it. I wanted to understand more of this quote though I was finally concluded about it was

"We are only happy and blissful when we are caring or doing a little more for others.

Its normal that Chloe wanted to post about this. She's the pedo one.

What I ate Wednesday :12 minutes French Toast

Organic jam //gg turns out to be cheaper than other jams.
So chio my french toasts ;D
I was suppose to blog earlier in the day like right after my meal before I head to work. Turns out I fell asleep on the couch. So stupid, this job would make me want to sleep like 12 hrs instead of my usual 6 hours. Super tiring.

I was eager to wake up for breakfast today, as I bought wholemeal bread with flaxseed the other day. Today finally had time to do something to it. Still, I'm pumped up but lazy to cook long.

After this job I have left over veggies in fridge still wtf. So.hungry.and.fastest.cooking.lah!

12minutes awesome breakfast lololol. So pretty and fast just the way I like lah.

Wholemeal french toast with syrup and strawberrieess!

2 slice of wholemeal bread!
2 whole eggs
1 tbsp of oil/butter
Pinch of salt(optional but shud be nice)

Toppings
3 fresh strawberries for awesome-ness
Honey/maple syrup
Icing sugar (for presentation, so happen to have some leftover)

Super easy, plus look so good and easy! Left over egg mix i just heat it over the pan.

I miss making my own simple food. After making my breakfast i slept another two hours on the couch and its time for lunch -____- stupid. Though I feel sick kicking in. So this is really all I ate for wednesday. But I drank alot of screwdrivers hahaha.
Without alcohol lah(meaning lemon and orange only)

Bottled them up

Coffea Coffee - Shortlisted for Timeout KL

I feel that I should blog about this since I know quite alot about Coffea Coffee. Since they have 3 outlets which is at Bangsar, SS15, and also the new upcoming one at Sunway Pyramid! (Located near the Lagoon entrance Starbucks). Coffea Coffee is from Korea and is no stranger in Korea as they already have 67 branches there while the one in Bangsar KL is the first franchisee in Malaysia.

They have two house blend or flavours I'd like to simplify it. Maestro and Madonna. After understanding their characteristics, customers can really recognize them and would let us know if the coffee is being funky as their both character are different. Sometimes customers stand in line with their mouth open catching flies while choosing between both blend, I would just tell them take it the way like Maestro is a guy and Madonna is a girl, haha they would smile and say alright why not.

Their beans are blended and roasted in Korea which is then shipped to Malaysia. Recently I've got to know so many coffee terms I can feel like I can be a coffee geek maybe maybe. So Coffea Coffee is doing full city roast instead of mainstream 'green-mermaid' dark roast where bad americanos are made (what I've been told of). Also because full city roasting is where the 'crema'(the layer of "oil" on top of your long black/espresso/americano and the consistent color of the latte sides) is.

If you notice like most coffee shops, their coffee machines wont be facing the customers.
Instead in Coffea Coffee their machines are facing the customers which also let the customers see how is the barista doing their job and also featuring this expensive big guy La Marzocco GB15.

Cup of Excellence.

See what I told you about geeking on coffee ;/

Coffea Coffee is a coffee place that serves quite a number of single origins and you can find it at any day instead of other place where they change monthly maybe. Unless sold out that is. Also Coffea Coffee is a bidder for the top of the beans auction for Honduras and Rwanda beans! *Certificate to prove as well there is*

Drip coffee are provided here price from Rm11 to Rm20 before tax that is. There are different extracting method or brewing method? In Coffea they offer Clever dripper by Kalita and Aeropress. They quality control really strongly about their coffee, I know, because there is almost 4 times and 1 test excluding 3 blind test of coffee tasting from the directors and managers in Coffea.

Blind test. This is only sipping 15 cups of coffee.
Yva.

Apart from that Coffea Coffee being a new coffee place in Bangsar is now in the running for the best place for coffee for Timeout KL. VOTE HERE.

I can tell you that although this coffee place some people comes in shouting their demand for the famous Peanut Butter latte and you should see their face when the other day we sold out our Peanut Butter Latte. There was jumping asking why, frowning and it lasted for two days until we get our stocks from Korea ;)

The other day this scenario happened. "Hi ;DD your peanut butter latte is available" to our usuals. They were like, REALLLYYY?? ICE PLEASE. She finished two within an hour. I don't really get the craze. I'm not a latte fan myself but our Caffe Latte has that really attractive aroma, no joke.

Cakes serve with coffee or any other drinks are better to be ordered in pair or for your own liking really. Lemon Cheese Cake and Americano goes so well together! The other day I was curious about the cakes and he seems to be a friend of our boss. So I asked, it seems that if you know Tray Cafe in Plaza Damas one of their baker of you can say Tray Cafe is the one supplying cake for Coffea Coffee! Got me so excited because I love Tray's artisan cakes so much, but I only been there couple of times because its quite far and they don't open late. Now I get to enjoy their cakes within reach ! hehehe. But I still want to visit them real soon!

heh heh! xD Such happy kid ;/

The interior
In my view I have not forgotten where I came from of course haha. Their interior of the coffee place is so raw and sustainable that is of course what I feel is trending in KL now as well. All the furnitures and interior are provided by Coffea Coffee team as well really. Alot of the customers are fascinated with the wooden feature wall where one of the Korean director went to Indonesia and asked the workers to chopped down a wooden sampan(boat?) that is then converted into a standardized raw looking wooden panel! Even the wood on the bar and tables are using solid indonesia java wood.

I went to the branch at SS15, they have double storey which had a vertical garden as their facade as well as beaming sunlight that passes through the second floor and toilet creating the attic feel of it. Thank God for their high ceiling there actually if not the place is awfully tight in my sense. Though their interior is really interesting to look at being consistent throughout both branch and also the upcoming one. Good job!

See 'By Timothy' ? He is a barista champion over a few years even ;)

I feel its so nice that their leveling flying out towards the walking pathway. So cool *.*

Above is the one in Bangsar

The ray casted on the second floor of SS15 branch. //Chilling.

I've been really lucky to get the insight about Coffea Coffee as their are such an awesome team that create not only the environment also awesome coffee, not to mention good connection that has good cakes to go with coffee! hehe, its hard trying not to be bias. ;/
